Dear Mr. Hood:
We have read the four individual cases involving compalints about Rascal Scooters on your website.
Electric Mobility Corporation would like to follow-up with each of these customers to resolve any issues they may have. Please supply us with the names of the Electric Mobility customers who have filed these complaints as you noted.
Please be advised we believe your comments concerning Electric Mobility sales representatives msileading customers sabout Medicare Reimbursement are false and inaccurate. Medicare's requirements for reimbursement eligibility are bed or chair confiinement. We train our sales reps to inform prospects who can walk to their door to notify the prospect that they are not Medicare eligible for reimbursement.
Sincerely,
Michael Flowers
President
In fact, the question of Medicare eligibility is not as simple as Mr. Flowers portrays it. Medicare will reimburse up to 80 percent of the cost of renting a scooter if -- and only if -- the patient has a prescription from a physician specialist who is approved by the Health Care Financing Administration. Experts warn that those disabled enough to qualify often lack the physical skills to maneuver the machines. HCFA officials caution that consumers should obtain a prescription before they begin shopping for a scooter. For more information, see Rascals Come in Many Forms.
As for forwarding the names of the complainants to the company, it's our understanding that all of the complainants have resolved their situation. We will forward Mr. Flowers' letter to them, however.
