Wal-Mart Tries to Buff Its Image

Steve of Rixeyville, VA November 24, 2009

I bought tires new from Walmart almost 2 years ago. I almost hit a deer on the way home from work one night and it caused some damage so they replaced 3 of the 4 tires no problem. The last time September 13th 2009 I took the car in for the 3K mile oil change and tire rotation and Fix the tire that has been going flat for 8-10 months. They called me and told me that there was nothing they could do it was a "Mechanical Problem" so I went and discussed it with the technician, the manager Nancy and a couple other employees, they all claimed the same.. I drive this car 3000 miles a month so the car is in there every month getting tires rotated and oil changed. They do not keep records of the tire rotation and then want to blame the customer for lack of maintenance.

Christina the department manager wanted to doubt what Jake told me and then called the store manager and says " He said just give him what he says." then she comments, " I guess he is just tired of you as I am too." They discontinued the tires I have on the car before I got the two tires replaced and gave me a cheaper Douglas tire.. "Junk" as Christina described them. The store manager and district manager lie about things..Richard and John H do not correspond with each other and John H refused to talk to me about it when I made the trip there to the Culpeper store when we found out Richard was out sick.. John H said we had to deal with Richard. I had the car checked for the alignment and the only mechanical failure is Walmart's Lube and Tire technicians. I am not going to Walmart for ANYTHING anymore do to this Horrible experience.

Janet of Rolla, MO November 15, 2009

Had a large bolt in front tire that is under road hazard waranty. Tire manager refused to replace the tire. Instead he had the tire patched. This tire is on a four wheel drive vehicle and is brand new tires bought at this location. Road hazard warranty cost 85.00 and is not worth the paper it is printed on. Was told the tire would be replaced. It was not.

Eric of Connellsville, PA November 9, 2009

I needed 2 new tires put on my car today and its a sunday, so service stations locally are pretty much closed. I thought "Hey, walmart does tires and they're open too!", little did I know that I was about to give myself the biggest headache EVER when dealing with a tire service station.

I waited for almost 2 hours while they "worked" on my car. Then a worker comes and tells me "Your lug nuts were too tight and 6 were stripped out, I got 5 to come off but one's on there really good and I can't get it. I'm just going to put a new tire and an old tire on the front- same in the back. Better take your car to another garage and have the lug nut taken off and bring it back and we'll rotate your tires for you". I really didn't think much of it because I worked at an auto body shop for a few years, so I said fine I'll go take the lug nut off.

Big mistake. I go to the shop and we worked on the car for almost 2 hours, the lugnut was completely and I mean completely ROUNDED OFF. We tried everything. The bad part is that the stud on the wheel looks bent as well from the workers monkeying around with it for over an hour.

I realized that this wasn't an easy fix and took the car back to walmart. At the service station the best they could do for me was rotate my other old tire onto my front end so they're the same and my new tires don't start wearing funny. "I don't know what to tell you, we didn't have the right size socket so we used a bigger one and that stripped it." SO HE LIED WITH HIS FIRST STORY ABOUT THE LUGS BEING TOO TIGHT!! AH HAH, something fishy is going on here for sure. I almost lost my cool and said I can't believe that nobody told me what was happening, because I had a tire iron in my car that fit my lugs!!

This whole mess could've been avoided from the start but I guess they aren't that intelligent at walmart's tire and lube they just jump in Rambo style and try to get the job done, whether they damage your car or not.

After I left the service garage I went straight to a manager in the front of the store. She was very nice and everything was going good, but then she called for the tire and lube manager who was anything less than pleasant. He was emotionless, cold, and unwilling to admit that this was their fault eventhough he DID agree that his service guys used the wrong size socket on my lug nut. I mean he was ready to blame anyone and everything possible in the world except his own guys for screwing up my wheel.

Now its about to snow anytime here, I've got a newborn son and a couple 6 month old tires on the front of my car that have barely any traction and 2 brand new ones on the back that don't help much because my car is front wheel drive. If I get a flat before this is fixed, I'm in deep trouble I'll need a tow and that means I'll miss my college classes that me and my family are depending on me finishing. I am going tomorrow to see a mechanic who is about the only person I know who could even have a shot at fixing my car. If he can't get the lug nut off, I don't know what I'm going to do at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, they don't pay their guys enough to care about what they're doing to your car!!!

theresa of buffalo, NY November 7, 2009

walmart employee lied stating that the lugnuts were stripped.I took the car to another garage and the tire lugnuts came right off. not only did they give me the wrong tires,I asked for goodyears, they gave me uniroyals.I had to go to another garage to have the tires taken off. This process costed me another 30.00 dollars.

belinda of newenterprise, PA November 4, 2009

went to get 4 new tires was told to come back in 2 hours went back the dept. was closed.finally after finding the location of our keys all the doors were left open and 1 tire was locked up.walmart paid for a taxi home and towed the car to a garage.we never got our car key back and would except a discont on the 270.00 dollars for the purtchase.after all we spent 550.00 dollars at the store that day for nothing but a lot of bull and agervation an a lot of time out of day

D. of rogersville, MO October 31, 2009

asked counterman at tire an lube express at wal-mart to buy four new tires 225-60r-16.he led me to the goodyear viva two tires. said he had complete set four my car. wal-mart has a credit line i applied four. upon approval i told them to do the work. i told them i wanted my old tires, just put them in the tire bags an put them in my trunk.after returning from walking around in the store about 30 minutes later i asked counterman if i could get my service manuel from my trunk. When i walked back in work area nobody was working on my car an all four rims were off my car an on the floor, i found that odd with no employee around. i opened my trunk an found my tires (two) were in the trunk an not bagged as i asked. i assked the counterman to help me put the two tires in the tire bags which he did, then i asked why wasnt the servicemen around an working on my car. at this point he said they were trying to find two more of the viva two tires, which there wasnt any left.so counterman said he call another wal-mart store in area an locate me (two) viva two tires.

he found another wal-mart in area that had two left, and told me just take the credit paper to that store and they would happlie sell me an apply my tires. upon arrival the kearney wal-mart had called the suneshine wal-mart an told them i was on my way. when i arrived they put the rear viva (two) tires on my car. now when work was completed an time to pay the credit company wouldnt take the credit paper work. they said it had to be used in the store where i opened the account at which was wal-mart on east kearney st. in springfield missouri. at this point the asst. manager of tire and lube express on sunshine st. wal-mart in springfield mo. called for his boss to make a decesion. she told me i had two choices, either they would take the two off my car they put on in there store and apply my two old tires or i pay cash for them.

my reply was the idea was to use my new account with wal-mart with its 12 months same as cash deal as i was told when i opened the account earlier at the kearney st. wal-mart. she said that paper work could only be used at that store and, only the 12 mo. same as cash at that store and only good for that day. so i asked her for a deal on my tires she said no. i then asked her to get the general manager of the store, at this point she flinched, an asked me to quote her a price. i told her i cant do that, and then she said she couldnt quote me a deal. then i said i would have to speak to her boss, or call corpartive office and make a decesion. at this point the ast. mgr. of the tire center quoted me 23 dollars off the two tires. at which i agreed. i had to use my visa card to pay for the two viva (two) tires.

Dermot of Astoria, NY October 26, 2009

I ordered 4 tires for my Honda Pilot and the tires were 105 each. The clerk told me the total cost would be 560 and I asked why.The clerk told me two of the for wheel sensors were bad and would need to be replaced. The clerk then said the computer would have to be reset and that would cost 20. When I said I could go to the dealer for that price he told me the dealer would charge 125 for each sensor, which was a lie. I told him to put my tires back on and refused the deal. The next day I had two flat tires on my car.

Jorge of Dumas, TX October 7, 2009

As January lasr year was performed a flat repair on my rear tire, where the technician who did the work on my vehicle did not know to turn off the air spring of the vehicle, therefore, was damaged the two rear air bags, ripting the botom part of them causing a light leak, because the defect took too many months to be detected the damaged on those bags were severe and unrepairable, this year a gave the manager of this store the estimate to repair the damaged but until todays date I have not recived any comunication from WalMart to solve the problem, and because I neded the transportation I have been forced to repair myself those bags by ordering in the internet to adquire the two new Air Spring Bags for my Lincon Town Car. and sent to be fix and paid as the estimate shows. The manager only told me that he will send the paperwork to the WalMart insurance Office to be fix. but the insurance never say nothing.

Floyd of Loveland, CO August 8, 2009

I took two tires on wheels and hand carried in to the Walmart tire and lube at 12;01 on 8-8-09 to have balanced, The lady who was waitting on me did not know how to run the cash reg. Also did not know the price of the balance, so she ask a lady who was working in the shop. The lady told her it is 1.50 cent per tire. So I said I would like to have both tires balanced. She had all kinds of trouble making up the ticket, So I went out into the store to do some shopping.

When I came back to see if my tires were done she had people standing all around and the phone was ringing over and over. She was telling people she did not know what she was doing and she wished someone would come help her. After about and hour two other ladies came back from lunch and were trying to help her. I ask I may tires were done and was told that their were one to two cars ahead of me and that I would just have to waite, I told them I had been waitting for about and hour already.

Finely a worker came back from lunch and they told him to do my tires, so he took both tires to the balancer and set them by it and started talking to another worker, after about five mins. he put one tire on the balancer. Spines the tire and seees it needs some weight. So he goes and looks for the right weight and sees there is no weight for it, so he goes to the stock room and gets the boxes of weights. Brings them back, and puts them in the rack and writes them on a clipboard than puts them on my tire. Respines the tire, it is ok, puts the other tire on the balancer and spines the tire, sees it needs weight and goes to get the weight, but there is on weight for this, so he goes to the stock room and gets some more boxes of weights and takes them back to the rack and puts them in the rack and writes them on the clipboard, then put them on the tire. Then goes over and enter that he balanced the tires,

But he never check to see what the air prusser was in the tires so when I got home with the tires I had to add alot of air in each tire like about 5 to 6 lbs each. Than when I went to pay out the manger rang me out and charged me 5.00 per tire. and said I was told wrong. So is this the kind of service you give all of the people who send there hard earned money????

Arenda of Millbrook, AL August 3, 2009

I arrived home from work at 4:30, and noticed a nail in my tire. I arrived at Walmart at 4:40 and was told they were closing at 5:00 and only have one person working and he was too busy. One person in the entire Auto Repair Shop? I was told to bring it back tomorrow.

I will have to lose time from work, possibly have a flat, and probably have to call a wrecker to tow it to a repair shop. I don't think it would have taken them 15 minutes to fix my tire
