Pedigree Pet Foods

Pedigree Jumbone warning! I recently purchased Pedigree Jumbone large size for my large 7 month old puppy. He ate two of the bones over a two day period. On the third day he began tp vomit. He vomited 4-5 times through the course of the day before he finally vomited what looked like rocks. I discovered that the "rocks" were infact breakable under some force. The "rocks" are the center of the Jumbone, but not digested at all over a course of three days.

We are in the fourth day now and he is still vomiting "rocks." Please do NOT feed your dogs and puppies this bone, there have been worse cases reported recently on this site, see October 20th, 2009 entry. We will monitor and take him to the vet if necessary.

There are live worms in my Pedigree Adult Small Breed 3 kg. packet. The worms in the Pedigree dog food packet are alive, many in number, white or of the same colour as the Pedigree. The product bar code is 8906002480012/RSU 10052970. It was bought from my regular chemist and kept in the Pedigree packet in a secure closed bottle.

Being a surgeon myself, the conditions in my house are hygienic. Now the health of my dog is in question. How many more packets have the worms is a worry. And the consequences to health and hygiene is a matter of grave concern. Now I have a new worry about the quality standards maintaied in [their] factory and whether Pedigree is at all the right food for my dog?

My dog became very ill with vomiting and diarrhea after eating Pedigree Large breed dry dog food. She always eats this but within hours of opening a new bag she became ill. I just spent 800 at the vet! She seems to be on the mend and Im thankful after reading the complaints on here. But I wont be giving her Pedigree again.

On a Saturday night, our dog was chewing a Jumbone - he ate the entire thing - nothing left on the ground. He started acting funny (not wanting to move around a lot), drank lots of water. I took him into Emergency Care Pet Hospital around midnight... over 36 hours they x-rayed his stomach twice, since the packaging said "chewy center" and the whole thing was gone - and he was still drinking water, they diagnosed him with upset stomach.

On Monday, his condition worsened, no longer drinking water and spitting up mucus and blood - so took him to my vet where they did a full body x-ray with barium injection and saw the complete blockage in his esophagus. Then took him to another vet to try and remove the blockage endoscopically w/out doing surgery. Product had not broken down at all and a piece was completely lodged in-tact 360 degrees with no ability to dig out center or get grip on sides.

He was then immediately rushed into a 5 1/2 hour specialized Surgery - cut his body to enter through the chest, moving his lungs, heart and cutting it out of his esophagus - due to the dead tissue of the esophagus removing parts and then reattaching the sides of his esophagus back together. Feeding tube for 3 months small feedings every 3 hours - lots of personal care. Now unable to eat solid food.

Reported to Pedigree in March in fear of another dog being hurt and concern of bad product and false advertising of digestible with chewy center. Still have original package and product removed from esophagus - Surgeon has pictures of product lodged in his throat.

At first report in March to Pedigree and after their investigation with all 4 vets they agreed to pay all present medical bills which were currently at 12,000 - sent the file to Liberty Mutual - their rep also confirmed they would pay after last medical procedure performed and we would need to reach a settlement amount. Just received letter that the claim was denied and that the representative that I corresponded with previously is no longer with the company.

I have all e-mail correspondence and 50 plus pages of medical bills. All 4 veterinarians are putting their product concerns in writing and faxing to "new" Liberty Mutual representative per his request for vets concerns in writing. Our dog is unable to be a normal dog that eats kibble and able to chew on toys or bones... nothing gets in his mouth due to his esophagus function being limited. Future procedures may occur - we do not know at this point.

We have been through an emotional roller-coaster - rescheduling vacations in order to stay home to care for the dog. We originally were not asking damages only expenses - but based on Liberty Mutuals switch - I am concerned for their accountability and for future harm to unknowing dog owners of the dangers of this product.

bought 52 lb bag of pedigree dog food at Sams Club on Mondayn October 5 2009. Opened bag and fed dog last night (thurs October 8, 2009 and this morning she is doubled over with pain and her tail tucked under her legs. This is not the first time this has happened. Last year the bag I brought from sams club was recalled yet they still had it on their shelves. When I called today, they stated they had no other complaints and are not aware of any new recalls.

UPC code 2310005110 with exp date of 9/23/2010 and other code 939080HX01L 22. This code was blurred on the bag so I made it out best I could. Last time I took my dog to vet and it cost me over 100 in meds and visit. He said he wasnt sure it waws food but I have no doubt. My dog was perfectly healthy before eating this then and was perfectly healthy yesterday. I will never buy this aqgain but I want to know what I can do about this now. Thanks

I have been feeding pedigree canned dogfood for 5 years to my siberian huskies, I haven't experienced anything like described in the previous complaints. My dogs recieve one full can a day. (Large can)I think people are trying to find a reason for their dogs death and this is the easiest thing to blame. I own a kennel and breed these dogs, I have had no problem. I think you should look elsewere for a explination.

After reading all of the stories from people who have lost their dogs while they were using Pedigree dog foods, I had to write. From November 2007 - August 2008, my healthy 5 year old Boxer experienced three separate episodes of diarrhea, not being able to keep any food or water down, and lethargy for 5+ days at a time. The vet diagnosed chronic kidney disease. Each time she got sick, she had been eating Pedigree dry and canned foods. When she got sick and refused to eat, I would buy another brand of food, and eventually, after losing a lot of weight from not being able to keep anything down for a week at a time, she would begin to eat again. I have not fed my dog Pedigree for almost one year, and she has not been sick during this time. After reading all of these testimonials, I will never purchase Pedigree dog food again. I can only hope that others using Pedigree see these related stories before it is too late for their dogs.

We lost 2 beautiful female Boxers recently in the exact same violent, sad way after they consumed Pedigree moist canned dog food. Our oldest, Dixie, had been on the moist food for several months until I purchased the her last batch from Wal Mart. Dixie began having what looked like dizzy spells which turned into constant exhaution. She then stopped eating and consuming huge amounts of water. With in a day, Dixie lost complete control of her bladder, passing blood.

We sought help from our Vet early on and were wating on the results when we noticed that Dixie went yellow in her eyes, skin, and lips and went into distress. We had to put her down that night. Our younger Boxer, Daisey, suffered the exact same horrible death about one week later after we feed her a can of the Pedigree food. We had no idea that the food was the MURDER weapon at the time. We lost Our beatiful little Daisey in a matter of 2 days of her consumption of the Pedigree product.
