Class Action Targets Classmates
Classmates Joins Netzero, Juno
NetZero, Juno Merge into United Online

Michele of Lompoc, CA November 24, 2009

I must have signed up for the service at a 9.99 rate, but was given no warning when the 39.00 came out of my account, causing me to incur a 29 overdraft fee. When accessing my classmates.com account, it said there was no credit card on file - so don't know how they legally accessed it. After emailing that I did not authorized this charge, they said I had signed up for automatic renewal; most businesses give you a heads-up before they charge your card. I am requesting a refund and I hope my back will remove the overdraft charges.

Rona of Langhorne, PA November 22, 2009

In October 2009 I became a gold member of Classmates.com. I charged .99 to my Visa debit card. At first my gold membership was working just fine. One week later I was being asked to become a gold member all over again. I checked my bank statement, and indeed my card wa charged. I should be able to use Classmates full services on line. however, I am once again a "free member", even though Classmates now has my 9.99.

Patrick of Hicksville, NY November 22, 2009

Like many others I thought I would try a membership to classmates.com I wound up not using the membership and figured I would decline renewal when the year was up. Now without notice or authorization Classmates.com has charged my debit card for a one year renewal. I have demanded a refund, but so far all they have done is send an e-mail about how I "agreed" to automatic renewal when I signed up.

Robert of Hacienda Heights, CA November 22, 2009

My debit card was automatically charged for a 1-year Gold membership renewal. I never authorized an automatic payment to Classmates.com. Classmates.com automatically billed my debit card on Nov. 8, 2009 and I contacted them on Nov. 16, 2009 for a refund when I found out about the charge. I have communicated with their customer service department via email 4-5 times requesting a refund and and my account be closed.

They tried to tell me that I had agreed to the automatic renewal and that they don't give refunds. I checked with my bank and they can't find where Classmates had originally billed me over a year ago. Therfore, how could I agree to the automatic charge? My bank has given me a temporary refund while they investigate the charges. In the last email communication I received from Classmates.com, they offered to refund my 39.95 if I would agree to purchase a 1-year special offer membership for 9.95. I have declined the offer and placed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, State Attorney Generals office, and here on Consumer Affairs.

Vickie of Holmen, WI November 20, 2009

I joined Classmates.com over a year ago. I rarely signed on and noticed earlier this month I was charged a 39 renewal fee in which I never authorized, did not knowingly allow classmates.com to save my credit card information. When I emailed to complain I received the following standard "Tough luck" response. I was never contacted by mail, email or other method to even inform me I would be charged. I was completely blindsided.

cliff of San Mateo, CA November 19, 2009

I ordered a one year membership to classmates.com. I discovered another billing on my credit card that I did not recognize. when I joined Classmates.com, they, unbeknownst to me, caused to join MVQ PRIVACY MATTERS. I was not aware that I had clicked on a button that had me joing this MVQ company.

I called the company and they have credited my account and canceled my membership. They told me it was added at the time I joined Classmates.com. Next, I was billed for PRIVACY MATTERS 123. Now they are covering up access to the use of their content with full page ads that masquerade as pop ups, but can't be removed with my pop up blocker. I put my heart into my life's story which i can't even get access to.

Selma of Vidor, TX November 19, 2009

Needing to contact a former classmate I signed up for Classmates.com. The offer was 9.95 for a Gold Memebership. Somewhere in all the crap that they request another 19.95 was charged to my card for a privacy123 which I did not want nor do I need. I had to make three phone calls for that cancellation and the credit card reimbursement. BUT! I contacted classmates.com and wanted to cancel this membership after only one day because of the add-on's. They were most uncooperative in that they would not credit my credit card nor would they cancel the current membership for ninety days.

I sought suggestions from another website which told me to go on my account with classmates.com and cancel from their website. I tried but when I used my password, I was told that the password was invalid. So I ask them to send me my password and the site said within 15 minutes.... Five hours later I'm still waiting... so I called, long distance no less, to personally talk to someone... Hold...Hold...Hold... twenty minutes... and then they disconnected me without even answering... This company's practices need to be heavily investigated and warnings be posted.

Becky of Eakly, OK November 19, 2009

I ordered a one year membership to classmates.com. I discovered another billing on my credit card that I did not recognize. Somehow, there had been a "tag" or something added, when I joined Classmates.com, that caused to join MVQ PRIVACY MATTERS...I was not aware that I had clicked on a button that had me joing this MVQ company. I called the company and they have credited my account and canceled my membership. They told me it was added at the time I joined Classmates.com. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR to have things like this happening. NOW, this company has my credit card number without my knowledge. I am sure Classmates will defend themselves by saying I should have read the instructions a little more indepth. However, their defense means nothing to me. I am trying to get in touch with classmates.com to cancel my membershipwith them, I for some reason, I cannot get online with them...can you help me with this matter....by the way, if there is a charge I am not seeing, please cancel my complaint!!

David of Orem, UT November 18, 2009

Am unable to sign in using my correct email address and password. It worked perfectly the last time I signed in, only two weeks ago. The only option offered by Classmates.com - is to reset the password. So, I clicked a link, to reset my password. Next, Classmates.com sent me an email to me with another link to reset the password. When I clicked "Send/Enter" up popped a message saying I was using an invalid link.

There is no way to contact Classmates via email or phone - no human being I can deal with. And I still have no way to access my account. I am not receiving services I have paid for.

paul of onard, CA November 18, 2009
