Tammy of hemingway, SC November 5, 2009 My credit card payment date was always the 5th of each month. I pay online. Lately they have been playing with the due dates. 31st of the month, 3rd of the month, 4th of the month, & 5th of the month. It bounces back & forth between these dates. I would like to think this is innocent but I no longer believe this is true. I do believe that they know exactly what they are doing. They want you to make a late payment. Therefore, they can increase your finance rate. My mother got caught in this same trap. As a matter of fact, this was the first time I was ever late with a payment. My mom was complaining about her payment date change & I looked at my bill. Guess what, my date changed also. I WAS LATE! Great business they got going there! I really don't think this will change anything but everyone needs to be aware of the trap that credit card companies are now seting for the consumer. My rate is now higher, 27.97%. I have always paid my bills on time but it looks like I don't now, & I could not get a lower rate because of late payments & fees. Christine of Painesville, OH November 4, 2009 Did not get statement, noticed and when on line topay bill - they changed my due date by four days, so i was one day late, they reverse the late fee since I have been a customer for many years, HOWEVER, they changed my finance charge to 27.99!!!!! I have to accept it or close my account - I owe them 10,000! I have never been late in 9 years! Treat customer terrible, this is highway robbery! Kelly of Linwood, NJ October 29, 2009 I have been extremely disappointed with the various misinformation given to me by representatives of Discover. I was solicited over the years by Discover but had not opened an account until last year. On, 3/11/09 I called into inquire as to when my promotional rate would change and spoke to Rashida who told me that I had 0% interest rate on my account and that it would remain on my account but that in May 2009 I would need to begin making two purchases to keep the 0%. When I saw the 29.99% I was furious and called in 5/14/09 and asked to speak to a Senior Account Manager and spoke to Ginger, who identified herself as such. She spent more than an hour on the phone with me apologizing and assuring me that she was going to RESET my interest rate back to the 0% and credit back interest that had been charged. She further explained that I would not owe a payment that month as the refunded amount would cover the amount owed. Ginger explained that it may take a cycle for the adjustments to show on my statement. I believed this person who was extremely reassuring that she was fixing this error that her company had made. Imagine my frustration upon receiving my next statement. A portion of the balance was at a 2.99% and part was at 15.74%. I called in to speak to a Senior Manager thinking that it just had not adjusted correctly and was to connected to a woman, who identified herself as Angela. She was both condescending and rude cutting me off mid sentence as I tried to explain what had happened. She not only indicated that she did not believe me but told me that Ginger is NOT an Senior Account Manager but merely a representative. Finally, I asked to be transferred and spoke to Corey, who identified himself as a Customer Relations Manager and supplied me with this address. I do not believe that Discover has acted in good faith. I have been out right lied to and am very upset by the practices of this organization. Thank you for your attention in this matter. My interest rate was raised to 15.74% the highest of any credit card I own when the conditions stated it would remain at the 3.99% for the life of the loan as long as I made 2 purchases ea. month. And I have been told by representatives that many people are given wrong information because representatives are unsure of Discover policies! C. of Western Springs, IL October 27, 2009 I received a phone call from a person claiming to be from Discover, who wanted to talk about a program from Discover last night. She said that I would receive something in the mail and then said that she needed to read two paragraphs to me. She raced through it, slurring words, etc. Thankfully I understood some of the last words stating that I was accepting this program. I stopped her and I told her “no" – that I was not interested in signing up for any program. She tried this trick 3 times! I stopped her each time and emphatically stated that I was not interested in signing up for ANYTHING that night. I find this sneaky and conniving. Discover should be ashamed of this type of business protocol. Dipankar of Saratoga, CA October 26, 2009 I have been a discover customer for 20 years. I received a phone call from a person claiming to be from Discover, who wanted to talk about a program from Discover. She raced through something that i did not understand and then said that I would receive something in the mail. In my next statement I noticed i was signed up for Payment protection plan and charged an amount even though I did not ask for it. When I complained to Discover, they said that I was signed up by them and the letter stated that I needed to call in order to cancel. My son had the same experience. except he remembers clearly telling the person on the phone "no" - that he was not interested in signing up for any program. They charged me 22.81 on my statement and if I had not gone through line by line I would have missed it. I had to make multiple calls and send e-mails to get it canceled. A few more days and I would not have been able to reverse the charges. I have since found out that many people have been fallen into the same trap. Dave of Port Richey, FL October 20, 2009 A couple of months ago I did not receive a Discover Card statement and luckily I noticed in my online banking that they had not received a payment for that month. I made the payment and then called them to tell them that the statement was not received. They asked me to check with the post office and that they had sent out the statement. I asked them what was the name of the person who did it? Of course, they cannot tell me. It's automated. I asked for a duplicate statement - never received. Now again I have a payment due in a week and no statement, but I have sent the payment anyway. I am wondering if they are doing this on purpose??? Anyone else not getting their statements regularly? Richard of CONCORD, CA October 16, 2009 I have had a Discover Card for over 20 years. Throughout that period, I have never been past due. Currently I have a balance of approximately 2000 and until October 7, 2009, had a credit line of 7200. On October 7, 2009, coincidently 1 day before my 70th birthday, I received a letter in which they reduced my credit line to 1900. Along with the letter, they sent me my monthly bill advising me that I was 45 over my credit limit and if I didn't. reduce my balance immediately, they would charge me a penalty over limit fee. A review of my account indicated that I was on an automated monthly payment where I agreed to pay the minimum payment plus 100.00. Never past due. A review of my credit history indicates a new charge with Home Depot for a 3000 fence in June 2009 along with a credit inquiry for 10,00 for possible landscaping - which I did not purchase. I have high credit scores, no delinquencies and perfect pay history. I criticize Discover for reducing my line of credit by over 5500 and reducing the line of credit below my balance owing and sending me a notice that they would charge over limit fees. They also increased my interest rates. I feel that they are discriminating against me because of my age. I have a yearly income of 100,00 and can pay their charges. Yvonne of Deptford , NJ October 13, 2009 My daughter and I have been a discover card member since 1996. In April I mailed a 200 payment early, around April 6th on the 17th they called and said they never received it. They asked me for an electronic draft. I told them the payment had to be sitting on someone's desk because it was never returned. She kept insisting that I make a payment. I told her okay, but if they received my check please don't cash it. the next day both payment were cleared. that was a total of 400 I called and and wrote letters. The sad part was that only about 40 was applied to the bill. I called and my interest rate was increased to 26.9 percent. I wrot a letter to the above address, which took a month to get an answer. I was denied because they said I was late, Since 1996 I was never late. This is a crime legal robbery. I mail 200 every month and 173 goes to interest. I was never late and I have the checks to prove it. If my check was lost how come it cleared the same day that I made the electronic draft? Charlie of Dontbother, OK October 3, 2009 Same story here. I have always paid balance in full every month for nearly 20 years! Due to vacation, last month's payment was 4 days late and today I get hit with a huge rate increase. Customer Service was less than helpful. They did not really care. Shame on you Discover. This is not the way to treat your best customers. Theresa of Pittsgrove, NJ October 2, 2009 I had two heart attacks that lead to a triple-bypass. I was not able to return to work due to my health. I had applied for medical disability and was waiting for a response. I called Discover Card and asked them if they could work with me until I get my disability money. I asked this Raymond if he would take 25.00 a month to show in good faith that I had no intentions of skipping out on them. He said NO to the monthly payment of 25.00. I told him that I just buried my mother and my sister and I was having a hard time even getting food on the table for my daughter. He proceeded to inform me that I over spent that it was my fault and I can keep the 25.00 and he is putting my account in the hands of a collecting company. A couple months later I again tried to make arrangements and this time I taked to a women who was very rude and insulting. She even suggested I kill myself and give them my life insurance(which I no longer can afford). Why is it that these people are allowed to be rude, insulting and be little you and they get away with it? Report Your Experience
