Dara of Milwaukee, WI March 11, 2009

Dara of Milwaukee WI (03/11/09)
I have a 2002 pontiac grand am, my vehicle has been making loud noises, shaking pulling and vibrating. I went to start my car one day and it wouldn't start. I had to have my vehicle towed to a dealership to find out what happened, my battery was low so i needed a new battery and a tune up. After all of that was complete the dealership informed me that my problem was coming from my motor, they stated and written a statement that says due to the oil filter not being changed oil would not get up to the upper motor and they foung metal shavings in the old filter.

I have been without my vehicle for a few weeks. I need my vehicle for my job, I manage three job sites and need reliable transportation to complete my job requirements. Since the incident i have been getting parking tickets almost every night because my vehicle will not start and i have no where to put my vehicle but leave it on the streets. It has been very stressful not having my vehicle i've been walking to and from which is not safe for a young lady to do.

I just finished paying my car off last year June, i never thought within less than a year my vehicle would not be working due to negligence when getting my oil changed. It has been stressful and depressing for me and others to depend on them for rides. Due to this negligence i will either need a new motor or have it rebuilt or buy a new vehicle which i don't have the funds to do either.

Christine of Plainville, NY February 28, 2009

Christine of Plainville NY (02/28/09)
ON 2/27/09 I took my car for an oil change at Valvoline (3925 route 31, Liverpool, NY 13090). After I left the parking lot of Valvoline the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. I drove my car to my machanic in Plainville to find out why the light went on. When he was done he asked me if anyone had been under the HOOD OF MY CAR BECAUSE A HOSE WAS DISCONNECTED WHICH CAUSED MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TO GO ON. The Valvoline technician didn't hook the HOSE back together when he was done. When I called the store and spoke to the manager and told him what happened he said what do you want me to do about it in a snippy tone.

I had to cancel my appointment to get my car inspected because it wont pass sense the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. I have to drive my car over 400 miles (wasting my time and gas)to get my car to reset itself, because the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light was on, so it will pass inspection. Valvolines response is to take NO RESPONSIBLITY for the actions of their employees or the problems they cause their loyal customers. I have gone to Valvoline instant oil change for many of years. I WILL NEVER GO THEIR AGAIN AND I RECOMMEND AN IMMEDIATE BOYCOTT OF ALL VALVOLINE INSTANT OIL CHANGE FACILITIES IN EVERY STATE UNTIL THEY LISTEN AND COMPENSATE THEIR CUSTOMERS.

George of Beaufort, SC February 19, 2009

George of Beaufort SC (02/19/09)
On 2/19/2009 I went to store CF1501 in Beaufort, SC for an oil change. I was informed by the lady taking my card to process the payment that the total would be 44.00 dollars and change. I asked her why it was so expensive when I normally paid within the 30.00 range. She stated You have the high mileage oil. I told her that in the past I was always asked what I preferred and she told me that in the notes for my vehicle I had ordered the high mileage order the last time I brought the vehicle in. I have NEVER ordered the high mileage oil and told her so, and of course she insisted I did. I could not and do not understand how a supposed prior order of high mileage oil should cause Valvoline to assume that they should automatically charge me for the higher priced product and install it on subsequent visits.

I am wondering why every other time I have been to Valvoline I was always asked whether or not I wanted the more expensive Max Life oil. Apparently it was convenient and potentially profitable to discern what my wishes were when it might have led to me choosing a more expensive product, but no choice was offered when I supposedly had in the notes for my vehicle that the more expensive option had been chosen in the past. Why did I get asked on every prior occasion what I preferred and the assumption was not made that I wanted the less expensive oil that should have been in the notes from all the times I ordered it before?

Fortunately I paid attention and noticed the topside technician carrying the bottles of Max Life and setting them on the engine and told him I wanted the standard oil that I ALWAYS have gotten. I found it highly odd that I was being charged PRIOR to the oil actually being changed. This practice is careless at best and downright deceptive at worst. I will not be entrusting the care of my vehicle to this store or ANY Valvoline store again.

Valvoline has a sign saying they take competitors coupons. I had a coupone for a free oil change they wouldnt take it. So it cost me 47.99 I ask about coupon i was told they only take the ones they want so after oil change was done he took off 10.00 dollars still cost me 39.55. If sign say they honor competitors them they should no matter what the coupon says.

Brian of Redondo Beach, CA December 30, 2008

It was probably 8-9 years ago. I took my Chevy Blazer to the then new Valvoline Instant Oil Change in Hermosa Beach since I was going skiing in the local mountains the next day. While driving off the mountain the next day I noticed a "thunking" sound from below the engine. I pulled into a auto mechanic since I was concerned that I may not make the 100 miles to home. The mechanic pointed out that the differential cap was missing. I didn't know what the differential cap was, let alone remove it. I did recall that the Valvoline employee working on my car remarked how tired he was.

Just as the frustrated EZ Lube customers experienced, the Valvoline manager denied responsibility. Valvoline's corporate office also denied responsibility. Fortunately, the Chevy dealer repaired the damage since the Blazer was still under warranty. As a former lawyer I was prepare to file a small claim action but did not need to. The legal doctrine upon which I would certainly have prevailed which essentially means that the only explanation for the missing differential cap was the negligence of Valvoline Instant Oil Change. I still go to EZ Lube every 3000-4000 miles and haven't had any problems. Perhaps I've been lucky. I do watch their employees like a hawk when they work on my car, refusing to sit in the waiting room. It probably doesn't hurt that I stand 6-05, but I nonetheless believe customers can better ensure quality service by openly monitoring the work being done.
